I never realized how much I was missing out. Portland is an amazing city! We live so close, yet I had never really spent time there until recently. Richard booked a beautiful four day trip for us. We did all the important things: walked, ate, rode the bus, ate, had beer and sat outside at several of the many food carts. We also enjoyed time soaking in the heated pool at McMennin’s Kennedy School. How can you beat a trip like that?!
Here are pictures from some of our wanderings and delights:
We spent a few days walking along Alberta Street taking it all in… murals, food carts, cafes, all in the midst of neighborhoods full of lovely old craftsman-style houses.
On our last full day, we made our obligatory pilgrimage to Powell’s Books and checked out the downtown food options. We made a few Somebody Feed Phil stops: Nong’s Khao Man Gai for Chicken and Tofu with peanut sauce, Voodoo Doughnuts for an almost sugar coma and, later, Kachka for horseradish-infused vodka, dumplings, pickles and a delicious bread with beet greens and cheese for happy hour.
I confess to having bought an abundant number of books at Powell’s. Richard found the Deschutes Brewery and escaped all of the tortures of book browsing with me.
All too soon, we had to say goodbye to Portland and head home. We will head back again when we can!
