I’m a bit behind on my posts. We’re two stays onward, but I will catch you up! Here’s a description of our extended stay on Ko Jum, before we headed back to Krabi and the airport.
On the other side of the island of Ko Jum, we did a last minute stay at Piman Pu Villa for a week.
On our tuk tuk tour, we visited this beach and loved it. Quiet, peaceful. The water was calm and beautiful.
I say this especially because, once we arrived and settled in, the monsoon wind and rain returned.
It was actually pretty spectacular a couple of nights. Luckily, we had many non-rainy afternoons and the last two days were sunny. We swam in the pool. I bobbed around in the sea a few times, minding the rocks.
I love looking for the marine life and seeing what’s around. On the beach, the bubble crabs scurry back and forth making these designs on the sand as they eat and extract the micro nutrients deposited by the tide. They leave this pellets of expelled sand behind, creating these patterns as they venture further and further from their holes. There’s a lot of back and forth as they tuck into their hole and pop back out again for more sand. I watched one crab digging its hole. It would dig and dig, get an arm full of sand, run far, far over to neighbor’s hole, and chuck the sand with gusto. Back and forth at least a dozen times! 😂
We had Ganesh, a small restaurant attached to the villa and right on the beach. There are only three villas on the property, so it was all low-key and we often had the restaurant and beach to ourselves.
A few days into our visit, we met a Serbian family staying in one of the villas. And the next day a German-speaking family arrived. We were all cooling at the pool one day, when an international game of water-sport hot potato got started. The children were delighted to play with the adults, and we all had fun.
Richard and I spent a lot of time enjoying our balcony where I valiantly battled monkeys one day, but lost my bag of potato chips anyway.
The bartender at the restaurant was the nicest guy! We had limited food offerings, being the off season, but there was plenty that was tasty. Mornings we ordered Thai food in place of eggs and toast; though I had a weakness for the banana pancake and honey. Richard impressed the cook when he ate an entire dish she prepared for him “Thai style” (read: really spicy!).
Apart from the mosquitoes and a regularly backing up toilet, we really enjoyed ourselves. We notices a for sale posting at the restaurant. The Australian who owns the place was nice on WhatsApp and helped us with some issues (read: toilet malfunctions), but he seemed a bit eccentric in his design choices at the villa, and he had obviously lost some interest in keeping the property up. The Thai staff always figured things out though.
One amusement was the fighting bull over the hedge and the red umbrellas from the villa that we carried getting to and from the restaurant in the rain, frequently a few snorts and grunts coming from around the shrubbery.
I’m sure Richard has some commentary on the art and design!😂 Overall, though, it was a good stay.
