Chobe – Prologue

Lisa has been delinquent on her posting so I’ll add what should be a post script as a prologue. We loved the location of the Chobe campsite along the river and the wildlife that would wander by. The one thing we didn’t like were the flies and the unending irritation they caused but we endured until … one morning we were awaken by a herd of buffalo about two thousand of them. They marched 5 across eating the grass in front of our tent for about two hours. It was truly amazing as was the amount of dung they left behind. The previous fly problem was now way out of control. As we sat in our camp chairs the flies attacked. Soon we became what is probably best described as “mentally unbalanced” we began a game of who could kill the most flies. I believe I won at 30+ but we became exhausted and dehydrated thus retreated to the scorching tent. These were not your basic fly but sensed us above and soon swarmed inside. Closing the screens I grabbed a can of doom, an insecticide so strong it makes round-up seem like kool-aid. Vigorously spraying each fly with a long blast the mist cloud of deadly poison started and it became “one of us is going to die today”. We survived but I’m scheduling some neurological test when I get home.
