We Have a Real Website!

After a lot of frustration and cursing, we now have a functioning website & blog. It’s been a huge learning curve trying to figure out WordPress, image optimization, backup files, video editing…the list goes on. In making this site, I have generally avoided doing anything that involves typing actual HTML code, and I have scrupulously ignored any directions from anyone where the starting point was something like “in the CSS file…”, but I do pride myself on now possibly holding the world’s record in Googling “how to…”

One of my challenges has been making posts, pages and menus that look decent on both phones and laptops. The two never seem to equate. In one case, something will look better on the phone and, then, in another case, something else turns out much better on the laptop. Well, I’ve finally taken a deep breath and let the tinkering go (kind of).

As for video, how do people do it? How does Richard do it? I always love the videos and slideshows he makes. For me, just the other day I was loudly announcing that I couldn’t remember how to do the d*** voiceover thing in iMovie, an embarrassingly simple task once I realized (again) where the button was. Fading out sound took me forever (you drag handles that magically appear when you move your cursor–so simple). Grrr! Hours! And I’m not anywhere near the art of cutting and splicing, but I hope I will learn over time. In any case, the video footage we get, raw or edited, should be pretty incredible. We even have a night cam for this trip! We’ll see who comes by in the early hours while we’re asleep in our tent. I’m wagering at least hyenas…

My project over these next few days before we depart will be to transfer some highlights and posts from our previous blog. I love reminiscing, and it will be fun for us to see our old adventures in Africa 2021-2022 along side these new adventures upcoming in 2024. I hope the old and the new will be fun for others to read as well. We largely write for our family and friends; though this time we’re writing for fellow travelers, too. We’ve learned a lot about planning these extensive 4×4 trips to remote areas; where to go; what roads might look like; what to bring… All information we’d like to share with others.

The old posts from 2021-2022 will still show under their original posting dates, so you’ll see them fall into place at the end of the blog as I post them. Eventually, we’ll add in content from other destinations. (You’ll see that other destinations are currently blank. It’s not an error when you click on them and see nothing. It’s just me being slow.)

That’s it. We’re off soon!

Hope you enjoy!
